FA Warns Manchester City's Verdict Threatens Game's Integrity
2 October 2026
The Football Association has stated that the recent ruling against Manchester City carries "significant implications for the integrity of the game."
In their official statement, the FA noted, "We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate."
This announcement comes on the heels of Tuesday's verdict, which found City guilty of violating financial regulations during the Premier League seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
Despite the verdict, City has maintained its innocence and has until Friday to file an appeal.
The FA added, "As proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing, we do not intend to comment further at this stage. However, we will continue to monitor developments closely."
According to sources speaking to BBC Sport, City is likely to argue that significant sponsorship deals were funded by the Abu Dhabi government rather than the club's ownership group, as part of their appeal strategy.
The independent panel concluded that City engaged in deceptive practices, including creating "sham contracts" with various commercial partners to conceal over £830 million in secret funding.
The Premier League has accused City of "systematically" violating its rules for nearly a decade.
