Ivan Toney Denies Assault Charges in Nightclub Incident

Ivan Toney finds himself in legal hot water after pleading not guilty to assault allegations. The England forward is accused of headbutting and punching a man during an altercation at a Soho nightclub.
Toney appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he confirmed his identity before entering his plea regarding the charges of actual bodily harm. The incident reportedly occurred on December 6 of last year at 100 Wardour Street, a popular live music venue, following a verbal exchange with Saber Da Silva.
Prosecutor Tom Heslop detailed the confrontation, noting that the dialogue between the two men was unclear but escalated to a physical clash. Allegedly, Toney lunged at Da Silva, delivering a headbutt followed by several punches, which left the complainant nursing injuries to his nose and fingers.
The brief 12-minute hearing saw District Judge Briony Clarke ask Toney whether he preferred the case to be tried in magistrates court or crown court. Dressed in a shirt and tie topped with a black half-zip jumper, Toney calmly opted for the crown court route, where he will face a judge and jury.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, Toney was granted unconditional bail. However, the judge issued a warning that failure to attend the scheduled hearing at Southwark Crown Court could lead to his arrest.
The 30-year-old striker was charged on July 31 following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. After the charges became public, a spokesperson for Toney expressed his surprise at the situation but emphasized his eagerness to clear his name in court.
Toney's football journey began at Northampton before moving on to Newcastle, where he had limited appearances. His career took off at Peterborough United and later at Brentford, where his goal-scoring prowess helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021. Recently, he made a high-profile move to Al-Ahli for £40 million.
