Robbie Savage Takes the Helm at Peterborough: 'I Just Want a Chance'

2 October 2026

Robbie Savage has officially taken over as the new manager of League One's struggling Peterborough United. After departing from his position at National League side Forest Green Rovers, Savage has signed a long-term deal with Posh, who currently sit near the bottom of the table following the dismissal of Luke Williams last month. This marks Savage's first managerial role in the Football League since he hung up his boots in 2011. The former player is optimistic about the challenge ahead and is keen to silence any skeptics. "Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but all I want is a chance. I’ve worked hard for everything I’ve achieved," he stated in a press conference, reflecting on his journey from being released by Manchester United to finding success elsewhere. Savage is eager to see his young squad embrace an aggressive style of play. "Judge me when the games start. I’m passionate about football and want to see this team give their all on the pitch," he added. His managerial journey began at Macclesfield, where he guided the club to promotion to National League North before moving to Forest Green in 2025. He’s set to meet the players for the first time on Sunday and will lead the team in their upcoming Football League Trophy match against Ipswich Under-21s on Tuesday. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony expressed his enthusiasm for Savage’s appointment, stating that excitement is a feeling he hasn’t associated with the club for quite some time. "Robbie’s personality and drive are just what we need right now. Nobody will put in more effort to turn things around than he will. The board was thoroughly impressed during the interview process, and his determination to restore confidence in our talented squad is what excites me the most."
